After several years of waiting, on Tuesday Xiaomi announced its first smartphone with an under-display camera. Xiaomi Mi MIX 4, the characteristics of which were shared by rumors, became the first Chinese technology proposal with this technology, bypassing competitors Samsung and OPPO.
The Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 is the true successor to Mi MIX 3 and becomes one of the brand’s most important devices for 2021. Hence, it comes with the best specs available so far, making the Snapdragon 888+ debut on the market with the high-end Qualcomm processor for 2021.
Xiaomi Mi MIX 4: Hide the camera on the screen as many wanted
The main highlight of this smartphone, in terms of design, is the lack of a dedicated hole for the front camera. Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 is the first smartphone from the manufacturer to hit the market with this technology, offering a completely “clean” screen, without having to resort to additional mechanisms like those of Mi MIX 3.
To achieve this effect, Xiaomi had to apply new methods to the 6.67-inch AMOLED display, with the area that overlaps the 20MP front camera being very flexible and redesigning the wires to prevent light blocking from this sensor. The part of the screen covering the camera uses a new diamond-shaped pixel pattern with algorithms designed to reduce the effect of refraction.
Despite the results of the ZTE Axon 20 5G, the new Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 is expected to get much superior results in this technology, as the screen has a pixel density of 400 ppi. The screen will have Full HD + resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and will be protected by Gorilla Glass Victus.
As with previous generations of Mi MIX, this device also comes with a ceramic back panel, with black, white and gray color options.
Mi MIX brings the specifications of big people
Since this is one of the main Xiaomi models of 2021, the bet goes to the sector excellent, which is something that stands out well in the specs list. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 will debut on the market with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ processor, an improved and more powerful version of the Snapdragon 888, which could be accompanied by 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of storage.

The Harman/Kardon sound system would be perfect to accompany the beautiful AMOLED display, which will surely get you many hours of playback thanks to the 4500mAh battery. And if charging your smartphone is essential, all you have to do is use Xiaomi’s 120W ultra fast charging system, which is capable of charging your smartphone in just 15 minutes. There’s also a 50W wireless charging option.
While the goal is to hide the rear cameras, Xiaomi hasn’t forgotten to include high-quality image sensors on the back. Thus, the main camera features a 108 MP 1 / 1.33 (ISOCELL HMX sensor), with optical image stabilization and f / 1.95 aperture, accompanied by a wide-angle 13 MP with a shooting angle of 120 degrees, as well as an 8 MP periscope camera with 5x optics and a hybrid zoom of up to 50x
The presentation took place in China and the Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 will arrive in stores in this market on August 16. The official announcement for international markets does not have a date yet, but Xiaomi has already confirmed that it will happen very soon. As for pricing, the base 8GB + 128GB version is available starting at 4,999 yuan (about 660 euros), while the 12GB + 512GB version will be available for 6,299 yuan (about 830 euros).
With this announcement, it will now be interesting to understand the result of Xiaomi’s very curious under-display camera technology. Samsung’s answer comes in the form of the Galaxy Z Fold3, which will debut on Wednesday, so we’ll have a real battle between the giants here until the end of 2021.
