The record of diseases caused by Aedes aegypti increased during the rainy season in Tocantins. The largest number of people infected with chikungunya has been confirmed and cases have exceeded 2,200 since the beginning of the year. 153% increase from January to April 2022.
Those numbers are part of the state health department’s (SES) surveillance, tallied from January 1 to April 8, released this week. In all, there are 2,266 confirmed cases with laboratory and clinical examinations in 26 municipalities.
Also in the first four months, there are already 6,901 notifications of illness. In 2022, in the same period, there were 2095. The increase is 229.4%. Records from 71 cities in the Tocantins.
Fortunately, no one has yet died from complications from the disease.
dengue fever
Dengue, which usually affects more people during the rainy season, saw fewer diagnoses and notifications in 2023. According to the latest SES survey, there were 10,600 notifications this year. Last year, through April, there were more than 23,000 notifications.
As for confirmations, of the 11,542 diagnosed in 2022, 1,023 are this year. The decline is 91.1%, according to State Health. The cases were in 69 municipalities and there were no deaths due to the disease.

Zika
71 cases of Zika, a disease also transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, have been confirmed in 16 municipalities of Tocantins.
The disease is more dangerous for pregnant women, four of whom have been diagnosed in the cities of Alianca do Tocantins, Araguina and Palmas.
1,910 cases have been reported in 40 cities. Last year, there were 693, an increase of 176%.
