European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says that Russia is today “the greatest direct threat to world peace” due to the “barbaric war” against Ukraine.
The statement came after a summit between European Council President Charles Michel von der Leyen and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, according to Agence France-Presse.
The war in Ukraine was among the topics of the summit held in Japan earlier this week.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine is not just confined to Europe – it shakes the core of the entire international system, including Asia. Kishida says this should not be tolerated.
Japan, like the European Union, imposed severe sanctions on Russia as a result of the war.
