US prosecutors have filed a new, amended indictment against Donald Trump in the case in which he is accused of trying to overturn the results of the 2020 US election.

Reuters news agency reported that the indictment was issued on Tuesday.

Earlier this summer, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that former presidents enjoy a broad degree of immunity in cases involving actions they took while in office. The decision has created uncertainty about further progress in many of the cases in which Trump is accused.

In the new indictment filed Tuesday, prosecutors dropped charges that Trump tried to pressure the Justice Department in his attempt to overturn the election results.

According to Reuters, this appears to be an attempt to keep the case alive after the Supreme Court's decision.

An earlier version of this case stated that new charges had been brought against Trump. This is not true. The correct version is that the prosecution changed the indictment against the presidential candidate. The error was corrected on August 27 at 22:25.
