Samsung is leading innovation in digital health to help simplify health, combining insights and metrics to deliver a more impactful and seamless experience. This approach starts with improving access to simple and accurate health tracking with Samsung’s BioActive sensor, which provides more comprehensive, personalized and accurate data.
Continuing this mission, Samsung has raised the bar yet again by introducing the latest version of its BioActive sensor. Coming to the upcoming Galaxy Watch, the new sensor will enable advanced predictive and preventive health features never before seen in a wearable device, as well as more accurate health measurements.1.
Introducing Samsung's new BioActive sensor
The new BioActive sensor is essential to delivering better preventative health experiences on the upcoming Galaxy Watch, with design improvements that enable more accurate insights. Samsung engineers focused on three upgrades to the new sensor: improving the performance of the light-receiving photodiodes, adding additional colors to the light-emitting diodes (LEDs), and optimally arranging them on the sensor.
Samsung has doubled the performance of each photodiode, reducing the number needed to maintain capacity from eight to four. This redesign frees up more space to integrate a greater variety of LEDs and ensures optimal placement on the sensor.
The new sensor now includes blue, yellow, violet, and ultraviolet LEDs, in addition to more green, red, and infrared LEDs. By integrating and arranging the LEDs, photodiodes, and specially designed photodiodes, Samsung takes innovation one step further, and is now able to analyze unexplored aspects of health monitoring in wearable devices.
Achieving greater precision and new possibilities for preventive well-being
Optimized allocation of green, red and infrared LEDs sets new standards in wearable technology, improving accuracy and enabling exceptional performance across a wide range of health metrics. This allows the new BioActive sensor to more accurately measure heart rate, sleep quality and blood pressure.twoblood oxygen levels3 And stress levels. Even heart rate measurement during intense workouts is now 30% more accurate than its predecessor.
More diverse LED colors and newly designed light diodes open up new possibilities and allow you to better predict trends and take proactive steps for preventive care.
The first of these resources will be an index of advanced glycation end products (AGEs).4 – An indicator of metabolic health and biological aging that is heavily influenced by overall lifestyle and eating habits. Used as an insightful biomarker, this indicator provides a quick snapshot of your biological age to help you make more informed decisions about your health journey and work toward a healthier future. The addition of the AGEs indicator is just one of many advanced new features planned for the upcoming Galaxy Watch.
The upcoming Galaxy Watch will provide you with even more advanced and intelligent health and wellness tools to help you achieve your goals. We can’t wait to show you more!

two Blood pressure feature is only available in select markets. To ensure accuracy, users should calibrate their device every four weeks using a traditional blood pressure monitor. The BP app cannot diagnose high blood pressure or other conditions or check for signs of a heart attack. This app can only be used to take measurements on people over the age of 22. It is not intended to replace traditional methods of diagnosis or treatment by a qualified healthcare professional.
3 Feature availability may vary by market. Galaxy Watch is intended for general wellness and fitness purposes only. It is not intended to be used to detect, diagnose, or treat any medical condition or disease.
4 Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs) will be monitored on the following devices in the Galaxy Watch lineup. Galaxy Watch uses light sensors that operate within the limits set by safety standards (IEC62471). However, individuals with light-sensitive skin may experience adverse reactions to light, such as skin discoloration or rashes. Avoid using this feature if you have symptoms of photosensitivity. AGEs are monitored for fitness and well-being purposes only, and are not for the diagnosis or treatment of any medical condition. If you are concerned about your health, please consult a medical professional for advice.
