Jacqueline Godoy, Postdoctoral Fellow in Mathematics, a researcher at UnB and represented Latin America at the award, which was held in Italy
Mathematics teacher from University of Brasilia (UnB) On Monday (6/3), I received the “Science as You Say” award, which is granted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to female researchers around the world. Postdoctoral researcher Jacqueline Godoy Mesquita, 37, is the only laureate in Latin America.
The ceremony took place in Padua, Italy. This is the first edition of the award, which aims to recognize the high value of foreign researchers who have excelled in the countries in which they work. In addition to Jacqueline, scientists from Africa, Asia, Europe and North America have also won a medal and diploma from the Italian Ministry.
Nominated for the award
Jacqueline Godoy says she has been nominated by the Italian Embassy in Brasilia to receive this honour. The award is intended for female researchers under the age of forty in all fields of knowledge. I had letters of recommendation and references,” he says.
Professor UnB is a member of the International Academy of Sciences. According to her, one of the entity’s researchers and another Italian mathematician referred her to the embassy. She submitted her resume at the end of last year and was selected.
“I was very happy and full. I know the great responsibility that comes with representing Latin America at an award like this. I think it is also a great opportunity to show Brazil more,” says Jacqueline.

Established
In addition to his master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral degrees at USP, Jacqueline has also completed two other postdoctoral degrees abroad: at the University of Santiago in Chile and the University of Giessen in Germany.
In 2017, she was the only Brazilian female mathematician to be selected among the candidates from around the world for the Heidelberg Laureate Forum, in Germany. On this occasion, she represented the Midwest region of Brazil.
In 2019, the teacher won the Women in Science program, promoted by L’Oréal, in partnership with UNESCO Brazil and the Brazilian Academy of Sciences.
