The bridge over the Kerch Strait connects Russia with occupied Crimea, and therefore is of strategic importance for the Russians. On October 8 last year, parts of the bridge were destroyed in a powerful explosion that claimed the lives of three people.
The explosion occurred a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin turned 70.
The Russian authorities were quick to accuse Ukraine of being behind it, but Ukraine has so far refused to admit it.
