But in Russia, the prophet of liberation and the colonizer are two sides of the same coin: a totalitarian crusade against Western society with its liberal values and universal human rights. This is Putin’s logic, which is trying to justify the apparent schizophrenia.

If we include the US wars against Afghanistan and Iraq, the US claim to represent a democratic, rules-based global order looks like a sick, insidious joke in large parts of the world.
