Here in Medica, one of the border posts between Poland and Ukraine, the fire brigade captured Dagbladet and ran all the way to the border fence late Saturday night.

Within half an hour, 5-10 young men in camouflage fatigues were ready late Saturday night, ready to fight—so far most of them were Ukrainians. But on social media, several initiatives have been circulating in the past few days to gather and coordinate foreign fighters who want to fight in Ukraine.

Trailer drivers Roman and Mikhail are the closest and go, at the height of adrenaline. They traveled from Denmark, where they delivered a trailer load.

– We’re going home. My daughter and brother are in Ukraine. I have family in several places in the country. My boss is already in Ukraine to fight.

– Do you have military experience yourself?

Russia struggled to find allies to conquer it. But Belarus and Chechnya support Russia’s war of aggression. The Romans in particular fear the forces of Chechen President Ramzan Khadyrov. He says:

– Now the Chechens are coming. They don’t shoot you, they cut you and wrap the knife around your body. Like lamb kebabs at the butcher’s.

A large supermarket opened a short distance away late on Saturday night and people were allowed in. Several refugees and volunteers told Dagbladet that the situation on the Ukrainian side is much worse than in Poland.

– People stand in line for 20-30-40 hours. Without food, without water, aid worker Yuri Senenki tells Dagbladet.

We met him in an impromptu refugee camp in Przemysl – the last major city before the border, where refugee trains arrive from Kiev and Lviv.
