Irina Rodriguez: “I know I can do better than this”

Portugal’s Irina Rodriguez admitted that she fell short of her abilities to qualify for the disc release final, achieving only the 25th best.

“It wasn’t a positive performance. I’m happy to be in the third Olympics, but I wish I had done a little more, to shoot a little more. I’m not happy with that 57m, but I did my best and couldn’t do it anymore” , pointed out the 30-year-old natural pitcher from Leiria.

Irina Rodriguez was far from the 63.96 she has as a personal record, in a competition where she canceled the first throw and then hit 54.60 and 57.03 metres, giving her 11th in Group A, which she will miss the final. When second set shooters perform better.

“I always end up with some tension or anxiety, which speeds up the timing of the launch, and because it’s about microseconds, I miss a bit and the launch is spoiled. It’s something I have to keep working and fighting at, because I know I can do better than this,” confirmed.

“I did everything I could, I was always ready to go at this hour. It was what it was, I’m not happy, on the other hand I think it’s good to be on a third lap, but I know I have to give more in the future. I worked a lot, but I couldn’t,” he admitted.
