Opened in 2019 and located on the outskirts of Copenhagen in an impressive 2,200 square metres, Alchemist Restaurant, under the direction of Chef Rasmus Munk, has gained a global reputation for its innovative and holistic approach to gastronomy.
Starting its journey on the list in 2021 at number 58 and rising to number 18 the following year, the restaurant stands out not only for its exceptional cuisine, but also for its commitment to social and environmental issues. Rasmus Munk, born in Randers, Denmark, has transformed Alchemist into a gastronomic laboratory where topics such as environmental pollution, animal abuse and food waste are explored through unique sensory experiences.
Located in Refshaleøen, a former industrial building in Copenhagen’s harbour, Alchemist offers a menu of 50 light meals divided into five sections, served in an environment that combines elements of theatre, art, science and design. The dining experience can last from four to six hours, reflecting Munk’s commitment to a meal that goes beyond just eating.
In addition to its two Michelin stars, the restaurant is famous for its high prices, with the menu costing 724 euros per person. For those who want the full experience, including the combination of fine wines, coffee, tea and digestive drinks at the 'Sommelier's Table', the price can go up to €2,065 per person.
Monk stresses that Alchemist is not suitable for business dinners or formal gatherings, but rather for those looking for an intense and educational dining experience.
