This is how passengers on board this plane saw the solar eclipse

aImages of the solar eclipse seen in several parts of North America on Monday were recorded on an airplane and shared on social media.

The sharing took place on Tuesday, and was carried out by Southwest Airlines, the largest low-cost airline in the United States.

“Trip of a lifetime. It was totally worth it,” the company's social media handlers wrote in an Instagram comment.

The video shows the sky and a passenger on the plane, whose identity has not been revealed.

Hundreds of couples decided to make their relationship official at the Total Eclipse of the Heart festival held in the US state of Arkansas.

“Incredible,” some users commented. Another user said: “I was on a Southwest Airlines flight the last time there was an eclipse. It was an amazing experience.”

This rare phenomenon, which will not be repeated until 20 years later in that region, was visible in Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

It was the first total solar eclipse in North America since 2017. According to NASA, “a total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth, completely obscuring the face of the Sun.” The sky “will darken, as if it were dusk,” and weather permitting, “people will be able to see the solar corona, which is usually obscured by the rising face of the sun.”
