The wealth that the 'new' Champions League could bring to Sporting and Benfica

and This Thursday, starting at 5pm (Portugal mainland time), Sporting and Benfica will learn their opponents in the renewed Champions League, in the draw that will take place at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

There will be 36 teams participating in this new format (compared to 32 in recent decades) of the competition… and even more than a million dollars, since UEFA, in total, plans to distribute approximately 2,470 million euros, depending on the size of the tournament. The sporting income for each represents an increase of 21% compared to last season.

Just for participating in Europe's biggest club competition, everyone earns €18.6 million. From then on, each win in this first round (in which each player will play eight matches) will be worth €2.8 million, and each draw €700,000.

According to the ranking, teams will be awarded between 700,000 and 10 million euros, with qualification to the round of 16 worth 11 million euros, the quarter-finals worth 12.5 million euros, the semi-finals worth 15 million euros, and the final worth 18.5 million euros.

The winner of the “new” Champions League will receive a prize of 25 million euros… plus participation in the European Super Cup, which alone will bring in four million euros. After that, whoever lifts the trophy will receive another five million euros.
