a Moderna’s vaccine is the most effective against hospitalization for Covid-19, ahead of the Pfizer vaccine and the single dose of Johnson & Johnson, according to a new study released Friday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the USA.
This new study shows Moderna’s efficacy of 93%, Pfizer/BioNTech’s efficacy of 88% and Janssen’s of 71%.
CDC investigators examined 3,689 adults in 21 hospitals in 18 US states who were hospitalized with severe Covid-19 between March 11 and August 15 this year. The study did not include immunocompromised people.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, these new data on differences in efficacy “may guide individual choices and policy recommendations about vaccine boosters,” but any of these three (those authorized by US regulators) offer strong protection.
The study reads that, “Although these data indicate some variability in levels of vaccine protection, all FDA approved or licensed coronavirus vaccines provide significant protection against hospitalization for Covid-19.”
