The festival director told Lusa that the Primavera Sound Porto Festival, whose tenth edition ends today, returns to Parque da Cidade on June 7, 8 and 9, 2024, in a container that “will get better”.
In the edition that ends today, the surrounding space is increased, taking advantage of the work carried out by the City Council of Porto in space, linking the City Park to the sea, and the music takes four days, instead of the usual three, a way to celebrate ten editions.
In 2024, Primavera Sound Porto will once again have three days – 7, 8 and 9 June -, for the first time on a Sunday, taking advantage of the fact that in 2024, June 10 falls on a Monday, the unveiling of Jose Barrero, in statements Lusa.
In addition to occupying more space, which means there is more space for bathrooms, bars and restaurants, which has prevented the queues recorded in 2022 from being repeated this year, there have been some changes in the locations of the stages.
The director of the festival assumed that this “was not the ideal year to test these changes, due to the obvious reasons for the rain on Wednesday and Thursday.” The rain that fell in Porto on Wednesday and Thursday, which Kendrick Lamar and Rosalía were headlining, meant there were flooded areas in front of the main podium, making it difficult to turn and stay in that space.
On Friday, it started to rain only after the performances by the leaders, and today, until nearly 9 pm, not a drop fell from the sky, and this is not expected to happen. For this reason, Jose Barrero says that what is experienced and seen today in place “shows commitment [da nova ‘arrumação’ do recinto] Obviously.” “What we did was not to take anything from what the festival had offered so far, but to add to it. And he added, above all, the fluidity of the audience in enjoying the Parque da Cidade, as I have not seen in previous editions, “he emphasized.
José Barrero emphasized that with “all the avenues created through this new implementation of the festival, there is greater mobility, allowing many larger areas of bathrooms, bars and dining areas, which was exactly what spoiled the 2022 edition”. “We know that not everything was perfect,” he said, “we will make changes for the 2024 edition.”
As for the changes that will take place in 2024, Jose Barrero excludes a change in the location of the main stand, which until last year was in a kind of natural amphitheater and this year was placed in a flat area. The changes he expects will be at the level of “locating obstacles, even typos.”
“These are the things that happen when you first transplant, and that can be rectified in a version of sun and good weather. The rain has just allowed us to attack puddles of water and mud to try and lessen the impact,” he commented. We realize it can and should get better. We also realize that it will definitely improve in the next version,” he said.
With dates already set for 2024, the organization is now working on the “poster”, but “nothing is closed yet”. Artist names will begin to be revealed “in the coming months.”
This year, according to Jose Barrero, about 38,000 people passed through the Puerto Primavera Sound venue on Wednesday, 38,500 on Thursday, between the 30th and 32,000 on Friday, and today 35,000 people are expected.
Notable performers today include British band Blore, who returned to the festival to perform in 2013. Performers today include New Order, Julia Holter, Yves Tomore, Halsey and Nick Lyon.
