On Sunday (16), Ito City (SP) announced the closure of the activities of its exclusive service center for those infected with dengue fever. This measure will come into effect starting next Friday (28).
The center's closure comes due to a decrease in the number of disease cases. Itu was one of the first cities in São Paulo state to declare a state of emergency, recording more than 1,000 cases per day. Currently, the municipality issues, on average, four notices per day.
During its entire period of operation, which began in the last week of February, the site provided more than 3,000 consultations and 1,500 examinations.
Since the beginning of the dengue epidemic in the state, the federation has recorded seven deaths due to the disease. The latest victim was a 44-year-old man, resident of the São Luiz neighbourhood. He had no comorbidities and died on May 28.
As of June 28, residents with dengue symptoms should go to one of the city's 16 basic health care units (UBSs), in addition to the three emergency care units (UPAs). For children under 12 years of age, you must use the Children's Hospital, which is open 24 hours a day.
Dengue fever is part of a group of diseases called arboviruses. The virus is transmitted by the bite of the female Aedes aegypti mosquito and has four different serotypes: DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4 – all of which can cause different forms of the disease.
All age groups are equally susceptible to the disease, but the elderly and those with chronic diseases, such as diabetes and high blood pressure, are more susceptible to serious conditions and other complications that may lead to death.
