San Francisco, New York or Silicon Valley are still the great global capitals of tech talent, but the emergence of digital nomads around the world is causing new tech heavens to grow in cities that are cheaper to develop professions, with a good quality of life, and benefit employers and workers.
These digital nomads choose their destinations considering a range of criteria such as internet speed, air mobility, quality of life, air, and climate, among others.
“Expansión” chose some capitals that excelled in the tech sector, put Lisbon on the list and named it the “Unicorn Factory”.
Portugal is the second country with the largest number of trained engineers in Europe, and “startups” headquartered in Lisbon alone have reached more than €21,000 million in 2022.
The publication also emphasizes the diversified offer of offices, where companies can find good space at more affordable prices than in big capitals, where the high cost of living is squeezing everyone, as well as housing, with spaces that combine living and co-working at an affordable price.
By comparison, in San Francisco and Silicon Valley, the average rental price for an apartment is between $3,000 and $3,500.
In addition to the Portuguese capital, the list also includes Miami, the “crypto port of tech migration,” which has grown in tech jobs, Dubai, with an emphasis on quality of life and connectivity, despite the high prices, and Barcelona, where the climate and co-working space prices stand out.
