The week started with the draw Play-off match to reach the knockout stage of the Europa Leaguewhich puts the runners-up in the group stage face to face with the clubs that finished third in their groups in the Champions League.
At 12:00, one hour after the start of the Champions League draw, the ceremony began in the Swiss city of Nyon. After about 15 minutes, the following duels were scheduled:
- Feyenoord – Roma
- Milan – Rennes
- Lens – Friborg
- Young Boys – Sporting
- Benfica – Toulouse
- Braga SC – Carabaja Pag
- Galatasaray – Sparta from Prague
- Shakhtar Donetsk – Marseille
Therefore, the “Lions” will face the Swiss team Young Boys, and the first match will be away from home.
The “Reds” are discussing a place in the next stage with Toulouse, with the first two matches being held at the Stade da Luz.

The playoffs begin in February
Sporting finished the first stage of the competition behind Italian Atalanta, so it will have to pass a double test to guarantee its place in the round of 16. The ‘Lions’ rival is one of the eight teams that have dropped out of the Champions League – with the exception of Benfica and Braga, where there can be no national clashes at this stage.
The first leg will be held on February 15, 2024, and the second on February 22. The round of 16 will start next March 7, with the return matches taking place on the 14th of the same month.
Benfica and Braga have swapped the Champions League for the Europa League – much to their dismay – and are now looking for a place in the ’round of 16′, but to do so they must overcome the first challenge: the qualifiers.
