During the first phase of the vaccination campaign, several municipalities in Rio de Janeiro exceeded 95% of the vaccinated herd – Emprensa/RJ

In the first phase of the FMD vaccination campaign carried out in May this year, the state of Rio de Janeiro vaccinated 2.4 million cattle and buffaloes, registering 92.30% of the animals vaccinated against the disease, exceeding the target percentage set by the Ministry of Agriculture and Wealth Animal and catering. – We are moving towards withdrawing the vaccination against foot-and-mouth disease in the state and this is our goal. I would like to thank the efforts and cooperation of rural producers, municipal agricultural secretariats, rural federations, related companies and civil servants in agricultural defense. This partnership is valuable – highlighting the Secretary of State for Agriculture, Marcelo Queiroz.
According to the Director of Defense for Agriculture and Livestock, Paulo Henrique Moraes, the rate of vaccination achieved is very important to maintain the status of the vaccination-free zone and is one of the factors required to progress to a FMD-free zone without vaccination. – The result in this last stage was better than that obtained in the first stage last year, which indicates the integrity and commitment of all participants – adds Moraes.
This result underscores all the care and concern of producers and servers regarding herd health, good practices and animal welfare. It should be noted that participation during the immunization stages is of great importance and the application and proof of the vaccine with agricultural defense is mandatory. A farmer who has not yet been able to prove vaccination must submit the permit, even after the stage is over, but he will be penalized.
Participation – During the first phase of the vaccination campaign, several municipalities in Rio de Janeiro crossed the mark of 95% of the vaccinated herd, as well as vaccination coverage that reached a large part of the state’s holdings.
