Secitece launched the publication during the latest edition of the Digital Knowledge Fair

Created to show scientific knowledge in our daily lives in a playful way, the comic book Ceará Faz Ciência, in its sixth edition, addresses the “intersection of science, technology and innovations on planet Earth”.

The topic for the publication was the same as that chosen for National Science and Technology Week (SNCT) and for the latest edition of the Digital Knowledge Fair, held in November.

For Secitece’s secretary, Inácio Arruda, the comic book aims to bring science closer to children and young adults. “The idea is to increase the scientific curiosity of young readers, and to show in a light and fun way, that there is science in everything,” he adds.

In the story, the teacher introduces students to how different areas of knowledge (scientific, social, cultural, economic, environmental, political and governmental) work together to overcome common challenges, such as the coronavirus pandemic.

The initiative of the Department of Science, Technology and Higher Education (Secitece) is supported by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, and is part of the science popularization activities.

Award winning screenwriter

Screenwriter Zee Wellington has been responsible for the stories of the comic book Ceará Faz Ciência, since its first edition. Sobralense, Zé Wellington received this year’s HQMIX Cup in the “New Screenwriter Talent” category, at a ceremony in São Paulo, attended by names such as Mauricio de Sousa, Ziraldo and Laerte.

Artist Rafael Dantas has been working with comedy for more than 10 years and today is divided between the outdoor market and the advertising market. Outside of Brazil, he designed the classic Fantasma character, by Lee Falk, among other notable works. In 2013, he co-founded the studio Qomics.
