After the controversy that took place between the Museum of Espaço Ciência and the government of Pernambuco due to the decision to donate part of the land to be built for a data center in the region, the Legislative Assembly of the State of Pernambuco (Alepe) will hold, next Wednesday (14), a public hearing to discuss the matter.
The hearing, which was held by the Committee on Citizenship, Human Rights and Popular Participation in the city of Aleppo, will discuss the validity of donating 8,200 square meters of Espaço Ciência to the private sector. However, despite Alp’s promotion of debate, the donation was sanctioned by an urgently approved bill, in October of this year, by the state legislature itself.
On the 19th, Espaço Ciência posted a refusal note stating that it had received an email from the company to which the land would be donated, asking when the museum would remove equipment to begin construction.
According to Antonio Carlos Bavao, Director of Espaço Ciência, he has agreed to use part of the land for cable production, however, only if it is integrated into the educational dynamism, if there is no damage to the museum. However, the director himself stated that he was not aware that the intention was to donate the land and did not agree to chop it up to build a “data center”.
The public hearing will take place at the Sérgio Guerra Auditorium, located at Rua da União, No. 397, Boa Vista, Recife City Centre, starting at 9:30 am on the 14th of this month.
