The International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC) has announced the results of its 2022 Spirits Review, highlighting three whiskeys in the Scotch Whisky category with 99 points out of a possible 100. Among them is the “fragrant and complex” whiskey, which costs only 25 euros in Portugal. Do you know which one it is?
Of the three award-winning whiskies, two come from Tomato Distillery located in the Speyside region of the Scottish Highlands. “Tomatin, 1976 Single Malt Scotch Whisky” and “Tomatin, Legacy Single Malt Scotch Whisky” were among the top three Scotch whiskies.
But Tomatin Legacy stood out more than its counterparts, mainly due to its price on the shelves, and it can be found in wine shops and food retailers in Portugal for around €25 per 70cl bottle.
The 85 judges evaluated more than 4,000 entries, across more than a dozen main drink categories, and found the Tomatin Legacy to have “ripe lemon with honey and sweet vanilla on the nose, while a subtle flavor of fresh grapefruit emerges beautifully on the nose.” The mouth creates a wonderful unity. Fragrant and complex, with a harmonious, persistent finish. This is matured in a combination of ex-bourbon casks and virgin oak.
The third highest rated whiskey is Denniston, Virgin Oak, Single Malt Scotch Whisky, which is produced at Denniston Distillery in Don, a small town northwest of Edinburgh.
