Jorge Mendes, coach of Nico Gonzalez, has a mandate from FC Porto and Barcelona to resolve outstanding issues related to the transfer of the Spanish midfielder. The Portuguese super agent has all the data to send to the athlete, in a conversation that was scheduled for Sunday, and find the result of this several-week-long process.

The two clubs agree on possible ways the player will move to Dragão, now missing the support of the 21-year-old midfielder to be offered as a reinforcement to Sergio Conceicao.

At the beginning of the negotiations, there was an expectation that Nico Gonzalez would join Porto on loan, but the Catalans prefer that the midfielder move permanently, in order to free up the salary budget for other contracts, although they want to keep him in a circle of control that allows them to save him in the future, and to preserve the championship perspective in the service of the champions in the blue and white league.

Thus, the Porto club must rent Nico Gonzalez for an amount of approximately 8 million euros and draw up a contract for the player valid for the next four seasons – his relationship with the Catalans ends in 2026.

The possibility of finding a compromise in the claims assumed by each team remains open, if the deal is implemented through a season-long loan with a mandatory purchase clause for the same amount. Here, the port holders only associate all or part of the financial means in the next accounting period. In this case, El-Galichi would only sign a three-year contract, after a year on loan.

Whichever solution is found, Barcelona will have the option to buy back between €15m and €20m.

Jorge Mendes brings together all these arguments to debunk Nico Gonzalez, and it remains to determine the midfielder’s salary base.

This topic will be the subject of discussion between Bento da Costa and Deco, the former glory of Porto and the current director of football at cules. The two crossed paths these days at the Estádio do Dragão for the Netflix documentary about the FC Porto president.
