The Ball – “It’s hard to accept what happened” (Liverpool)

After the heavy defeat, against Real Madrid 2-5, in the first leg of the 16th round of the Champions League, Jordan Henderson, captain of Liverpool, was clearly disappointed with the outcome of the match.

Haha, it’s hard to sum up what happened immediately after the match. I feel that for most of the first half we played well and lacked a bit of luck. When we were leading 2-0 we were still in a good dangerous situation and if it did, it would have been a very important moment in the game. But we also made a lot of mistakes, like the second one we had and we were really disappointed after the third one. After Real Madrid won 3-2, we left the game and they punished us at every opportunity,” said the midfielder, adding: “This match had a lot to do with the quality of Real Madrid. We didn’t know how to help ourselves and instead made trouble. Not one hundred percent defensive, this is a ruthless opponent. It’s hard to accept what happened.”

Looking ahead to the second leg, Jordan Henderson said: “We still have a few weeks to go. We have to get back on our feet quickly because, before that, we’ll continue to discuss Premier League games and we need to focus on the Championship and get over this moment before we get to the second leg.”
