The ball – Benfica crushes Ourense and is one point away from the title (women’s soccer)

Benfica crushed Ourense 6-0 in the match of the 19th round of the National Women’s Football Championship, which was played earlier on Sunday afternoon, at Court No. 1 of the Benfica Campus, in Seixal.

With this victory, the Eagles – who were not champions today because Sporting beat Damiense (2-0) – are just one point away from reaching the third championship.

Jessica Silva, Ana Vitória and Carol Costa made it 3-0 in the first half – in the middle, Ana Rita Oliveira saved a penalty kick from Chloe Lacas.

The Canadian international redeemed herself in the second half, scoring twice in the match (one of which was a penalty), leaving Francisca Nazareth to close the scoring.

The victory allows Benfica to reach 54 points, 9 more than Sporting, who remain in second place, meaning that Philippa Patao’s men are just one point away from winning another national title.

As for Ourense, it remains in the eleventh and penultimate place, with 14 points.

In the next round, Benfica will travel to Valladares Gaia (May 7, 4pm CEST), while they will welcome Ourense Famalicao.

But before that, the Eagles will still face Famalicao, in the second leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-final, which is scheduled to take place at 11 am next Sunday. Remember that in the first leg, there was a three-ball tie.
