Hey FC Porto beat Boavista, at great cost, on Sunday. In a “crazy” match that ended in a 2-1 draw with a goal in the 90th + 7th minute by Mehdi Taremi, Porto players did not advance until the last minute.
It was a match not worth just playing football inside the four lines. Pinto da Costa and André Villas-Boas were together at the presidential podium, as shown in some photos taken in the room. The fans also paid tribute to AVB, in a Dragão Stadium that had been “stripped” of fans, as the Super Dragões were not present as part of the Golden Ticket process. Stefan Eustaquio was also the subject of the tribute.
The first half witnessed clear control by the Dragon team. They had more possession, hit more shots, and pressured the retreating Boavista for longer. However, the chess players posed a threat when they reached Diogo Costa's goal.
Salvador Agra, a former Benfica player, was one of the first to create excitement. He zigzagged between two opponents and tested Diogo Costa, with the Portuguese goalkeeper holding onto the ball in the second. In another move, a poisonous cross from the right side from Boavista, which did not end with a goal until after a strong cross from Otavio.
In the Porto team, Pepe had the best opportunity. Brazilian winger Pedro Malheiro moved out of the way and shot towards the crossbar defended by Joao Gonçalves. Minutes earlier, Nico Gonzalez missed a good opportunity inside the area, but stumbled.
The goals came in the second half (also a red card)
In the second half, Boavista was the first to reach the goal. Bruno Lourenco scored in the 60th minute from a cross shot. After giving him some space within the Porto area.
In the 63rd minute, Boavista were reduced to ten men at the Estádio do Dragão, against Porto, shortly after Boavista fans scored the opening goal. Pedro Malheiro had a lone challenge on Mehdi Taremi and ended up receiving a second yellow card and subsequent red card.
However, the game is not over yet. FC Porto equalized through Ze PedroScoring an unexpected goal in the 81st minute in a move blessed by some luck. After a 'string' from Otavio, the ball went straight to the head of the defender (who threatened to score two goals with a brilliant shot from outside the area).
Both teams were very open, searching for a goal, with Boavista's Joao Gonçalves, as well as FC Porto's Diogo Costa, both making great saves. But the winning goal has already arrived. Mehdi Taremi received a wonderful cross from Francisco Conceicao and headed it into the goal. Lots of partying in Dragão. A tearful farewell for the Iranian on the field, as the striker sealed the three points.
Thus, FC Porto returns to third place to discuss direct entry into the group stage of the Europa League (which it can still guarantee if it wins the Portuguese Cup). They have one point more than Braga, as they will visit Pedrera on the final day. Boavista continues to search for permanence.
