Everyone who follows SpaceX and Starship knows that the first tests of this ship are coming. All that was missing was FAA clearance for everything to happen. Now that authorization has arrived and everything is ready for this first test, which has an exact date.
The long awaited authorization has arrived
For some time now, SpaceX has had everything ready for the first orbital test of the Starship. This is set up in a very subtle way, with only one permission missing, which is necessary for this first step.
It seems that this authorization took a long time to arrive, but finally it seems that the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) has given its positive opinion. And so, with this new mandate, SpaceX can finally begin new tests with the Starship.
Orbital spacecraft flight can occur
From what SpaceX announced a few hours ago, this now-released authorization opens the door for new Starship flights. The company already has all the requirements ready, including a date for the first orbital test of its spacecraft.
from openIt is scheduled to take place next Monday, April 17th. Plans call for everything to happen around 7:00 AM Central Time (1:00 PM in Lisbon). The window of opportunity for this flight will be 150 minutes. Testing is expected to take place in this time block.
So SpaceX can test it out
SpaceX has already completed several suborbital flight tests of the Starship's upper stage, Starbase. Now they want to move forward, and according to SpaceX, in a test like this, success is measured by how much they can learn, which will inform and improve the likelihood of success in the future, as they advance in spacecraft development.
Starship is a fully reusable transport system designed to carry crew and cargo to Earth orbit. It will also help humanity return to the Moon and travel to Mars and beyond. This test, which will take place now, is one of the most important steps in its development.
