The 4-2 victory over Iceland confirms Slovakia’s second place in Group 10 behind the national team
Slovakia on Friday secured qualification for the final stage of the 2024 European Championship, raising the number of teams already qualified for the competition to be held in Germany to 11.
In a match at home, Slovakia beat Iceland 4-2, in a match in which it conceded a goal in the 17th minute scored by Ori Oscarsson, but it was able to turn things around thanks to goals from Kuka (30) and Ondrej Duda (36). From a penalty kick) and Harraslin (47th and 55th), while the Icelanders continued to score through Andre Gudjohnsen (74th).
With this result, the Slovaks secure second place in Group Ten, and they will accompany leader Portugal towards the final stage of the next European Championship, which will be held in Germany, from June 14 to July 14, 2024.
Slovakia occupies second place in the group with 19 points, eight points behind leaders Portugal (27), while Luxembourg occupies third place with 14 points, followed by Iceland with 10 points, Bosnia with nine points, and Liechtenstein with no points after one final round.
The Slovaks guarantee their presence in the European finals for the third time in a row, after 2016 and 2020, and their best result was the round of 16 in 2016, with an exit at the hands of Germany.
In addition to Slovakia and Portugal, host nation Belgium, France, Spain, Scotland, Turkey, Austria, England, Hungary and Germany also qualified.
