Brazilian singer MC Poco do Borel was shot dead during a concert Sunday morning, on the southern coast of Pernambuco, Brazil. The artist was performing in a bar when he was run over by someone the local police are trying to identify.
Paulo Roberto Gonçalves Cavalcante, known in the “Briga Funk” world as MC Boco, was hit by several shots. According to a statement issued by the Brazilian authorities, “She was found lifeless, pierced by a firearm, in a bar on Avenida dos Pescadores, in the municipality of Ipojuca.” The crime allegedly occurred when the victim, aged 34, was giving a concert.
The artist is married and has four minor children. On social media, the singer’s wife, Aline Christina, asked for justice and confirmed that her husband was the target in the shooting: “My husband was killed coldly, for being the man he always was.”
Poco lived in the Mustardinha neighborhood on the outskirts of Recife. In June 2020, he was arrested along with three people who were in possession of 670 grams of the cocaine paste derivative. He was held in pretrial detention until October of this year. At the time, the singer’s advisors denied the artist’s involvement in drug smuggling and said that “he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
