Selection: Francisco Neto’s 2023 World Cup squad

Selection: Francisco Neto’s 2023 World Cup squad

The national team coach, Francisco Neto, announced on Tuesday the 23rd squad for the 2023 World Cup, which will be held next summer, and which marks Portugal’s first appearance in the final stage of the World Cup finals.

The main news is the absence of Ana Dias, from Zenit, and Vanessa Marquez, from Sp. Braga, the players who took part in the friendlies against Japan and Wales, last April.

However, the coach revealed that in the next few days, the names of two more players who will be preparing for the test will be announced along with the group of 23 that was just announced.

“FIFA refers to a maximum of 23 players, but it is logical that we have two more players, whose names will be known in the coming days, and they will do all the preparations for the World Cup,” he said.

It should be noted that preparations for the World Cup will begin on the nineteenth of June, and are still in Portugal. The trip to New Zealand is scheduled for July 10, three days after a friendly match against Ukraine.

Already on New Zealand soil, the Portuguese national team will play a closed-door match with Norway and another whose opponent has yet to be announced.

It should be noted that the 2023 World Cup will be held from July 20 to August 20 in New Zealand and Australia. Portugal was included in Group E, along with the United States, the Netherlands and Vietnam, and the competition began on 3 July, against selection for the Netherlands.
