US drugmaker Merck, known in Brazil as MSD, announced Friday (1) that it intends to obtain approval in the United States for a drug against Covid-19: molnupirvir. A study conducted by the company showed that the drug reduced by about 50% the chance of hospitalization or death in patients at risk of developing severe forms of the disease.
If approved, it would become the first pill drug to be effective in treating the disease — unlike drugs such as hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin, which are touted by pandemic deniers.
