Science and Technology Park in Alentejo begins today to attract nomads to the region – Executive Digest

PACT – Parque do Alentejo de Ciência e Tecnologia has launched a new program with the goal of attracting digital nomads to the region. This initiative kicks off today, in the first PACT Talk of the year, and its tagline is “How Can Cryptocurrency and NFT (Digital Assets) Bring Digital Nomads to Alentejo?”

The Alentejo Science and Technology Park (PACT), based in Évora, wants to attract digital nomads to the region, betting on the territory’s “wonderful conditions” and the opportunities created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are launching a strategy to attract digital nomads to the Alentejo,” Soumodip Sarkar, CEO of PACT, told Lusa, ie people from all over the world working remotely.

According to the official, the Alentejo region has “great conditions to receive” this type of people working remotely.

“PACT wants to lead this process, but not for the park itself. The goal is to attract these digital nomads to different places in the Alentejo, including cameras and other entities,” he added.

Sumodeep Sarkar admitted that the strategy was still in its infancy and said the work could include creating the infrastructure for the reception, for example with adapting buildings where these workers can live and work in an open space.

The official said he was considering raising funds for Portugal 2030 or a potential application for European funds from the Regional System for Technology Transfer (SRTT), led by PACT, but which includes the University of Évora, three technical institutes, and research and technology centers. Incubators among others.

“I want to rally the SRTT team around this idea,” he stressed, to create “what is already in Madeira in the Alentejo.”

In Madeira, which has already attracted many remote workers, the Digital Nómadas project is being implemented, which has begun to be promoted by the Regional Secretariat for the Economy of the Archipelago and Startup Madeira, including also hotels and other companies from various regions or international platforms.

“The presence of a nomadic ecosystem enriches the areas in which they settle,” said Sumodeep Sarkar, “not only because there is a mobilization of regional and national economies, but also because of the strengthening of contact between different cultures.”

The idea of attracting remote workers from around the world will be discussed Thursday, at a conference scheduled for PACT facilities, at 10:00, under the title “How can cryptocurrencies and NFTs (digital assets) bring digital nomads to the Alentejo?”.

In a statement, PACT said the session marked the beginning of a program to attract digital nomads to the region, to take advantage of the opportunities that the covid-19 pandemic has created for the emergence of these communities.

“There are many studies that have indicated that Portugal is currently one of the most attractive countries for digital nomads and teleworking,” the Alentejo Science and Technology Park highlighted the Alentejo Science and Technology Park.

Thursday’s conference will feature speeches by Bogdan Dançuk, founder of Remote Haven, the first five-star co-living space launched in 2021 on the island of Madeira, by Nadia Sergic, a ‘startups’ consultant, and Sumodeep Sarkar. Himself.
