Schwalmstadt-Treysa: Two killed in supermarket shooting

Two people have been killed in a shooting at a grocery store in Swalmstadt, north of Hesse. Police believe a man killed a woman and then committed suicide.

Two were shot dead in Swalmstadt, north of Hesse. Police in Homberg (Efze) say a shooting has taken place in a shop where two dead people were found.

Matching witness accounts

Investigators believe a man first killed a woman and then killed himself. Police said eyewitnesses reported the crime unanimously. “After the first inquiries into the course of the crime, there is currently no evidence of third party involvement.”

So the accused is said to be 58 years old and the shooter is said to be a 53 year old woman. The relationship between them is not yet clear. No one else was injured in the incident, police said. Witnesses and victims of crime will be maintained on site.

According to their own report, police were on site with heavy forces. There is no danger to the people. The area is extensively encircled.

Hesion State Parliament interrupts the session

According to information from Hessian Radio Shortly after the crime, the Hessian state parliament intervened. State President Astrid Wallman (CDU) also expressed condolences on behalf of the relatives of the deceased MPs.

Wallman told parliamentarians between the two speeches during a full debate following the government statement from Prime Minister Boris Rhine (CDU).

Swalmstad is halfway between Marburg and Castle and is the largest city in the Swalm-Eder district. As of December 31, 2020, the municipality had a population of about 18,000.
