As of today (28), residents of São Paulo over six months of age who have not yet taken the vaccine against the influenza virus in 2021 will be able to search for a health center to receive the immunizing agent. Vaccination will be guaranteed until supplies run out.
Until then, the flu shot was only applied to older adults over 60, children between six months and five years old, and pregnant and postpartum women. But with the increase in cases of influenza and a decrease in the demand for this immune factor in health centers, the city decided to expand the scope of the public to try to reduce the incidence of respiratory diseases, which caused a significant increase in the demand for care in health units in the capital.
Influenza virus is an acute febrile infectious disease that can pose a greater risk of complications for the most vulnerable groups, such as the elderly. The disease can progress to more severe forms and even death.
The flu vaccine does not protect against the new strain that has been circulating in recent months, called Darwin (H3N2), but it is important to prevent the acute form of the disease, as well as other influenza.
Vaccination is done in 469 basic health units (UBSs), drive throughand major stations and partner pharmacies, i.e. in the same places where vaccines against COVID-19 are being applied. Post List It can be consulted online.
