São José dos Pinhais is a finalist for the 5th Guangzhou International Urban Innovation Award, thanks to the project “Digital Technology and Social Participation in Monitoring, Identification of Priority Areas and Yellow Fever Control Measures”.
In this edition, the award brings together, in addition to São José dos Pinhais, 14 other cities from different countries, in which citizens participate through the popular vote, which continues until November 11, in order to give more clarity to the municipal project, as well as to fortify and consolidate the name of the city in Scenario of the world, through the successful experiences of the work done by the relevant technicians and municipal staff.
Project procedures brought together the Zoonoses Control Unit of São José dos Pinhais, the Department of Health of the State of Paraná, the General Coordination of Arboviruses of the Ministry of Health, and the researchers of FIOCRUZ, and allowed early vaccination and yellow fever control in the region.
In this edition, the 15 finalist cities, São José dos Pinhais being the only Brazilian, were selected from among 273 initiatives from 60 countries. The municipality was selected for its innovative practice in the prevention of zoonoses, as well as yellow fever, thus contributing to the improvement of social, economic and environmental sustainability and the quality of life of its citizens.
The application allowed public health authorities in São José dos Pinhais to identify potential outbreaks “two months in advance”, thus enabling the population to be vaccinated against yellow fever.
For the project “Digital Technology and Social Engagement in Monitoring, Identification of Priority Areas and Measures to Control Yellow Fever” to be among the top 3 (three) initiatives in the world, it needs a popular vote, as well as its dissemination.
