The Ministry of Health said it has registered seven Central Public Health Laboratories (Lacens) to conduct diagnostic tests for monkeypox, also known as monkeypox. “From now on, Bahia, Goiás, Santa Catarina, Ceará, Pernambuco, Parana and Espírito Santo will also have the ability to analyze samples. With this, the volume ensures a faster identification of the virus, which has been monitored since it was first detected in the country in June 2022.”

Before the expansion, the tests were already carried out by the Lacens in Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Distrito Federal, Rio Grande do Sul, as well as the reference laboratories of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Viocruz), in Rio de Janeiro and Amazonas, from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and the Evandro Institute Chagas in Barra.

According to the data of the Ministry of Health, as of Tuesday (20), at least 7,115 cases of viral infection have already been recorded across the country. Most of them are in the states of São Paulo (3548), Rio de Janeiro (963), Minas Gerais (446), Goiás (415) and Ceará (247).

Diagnosis is made exclusively by a polymerase chain reaction-type molecular test, the same technology used in Fiocruz’s Biomanguinhos tests, which are approved by Anvisa.

Regarding the Biomanguinhos tests, the initial prediction of acquisition by the Ministry of Health is, tentatively, 60 thousand kits, a quantity that can vary depending on availability, for distribution throughout the Lacens network and reference laboratories, taking into account the epidemiological situation of each case.

Health authorities warn that if the disease is suspected, all patients should be carried out molecular tests for laboratory diagnosis. It is able to detect the genetic material of the virus in the sample taken from each individual. For this, it is preferable to collect it from the secretion of purulent lesions. When they are already dry, the husks can be removed and sent to the lab,” directing the folder.

For those who test positive, the recommended procedure is to maintain isolation until the crusts are gone and the skin has healed completely, without the need for a new test. The most common symptoms are a rash or lesions spreading across the skin. swollen glands / swollen lymph nodes, also known as tongues; Headache; Chills and weakness.
