Sadness or depression? Pay attention to the differences and the signs

Depression, also known as major depressive disorder (MDD), is a serious and potentially fatal problem that affects more than 11.5 million Brazilians, according to data from the World Health Organization (WHO).

Grief is something everyone will experience someday. It is a completely human and normal condition. It is how our brain reacts to the most difficult moments of our lives. It’s okay to feel sad. The problem is staying in deep frustration. Sadness in this case has a name: depression!

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a serious disorder and should be watched for. When someone is diagnosed with depression, their whole life ends. There was no longer any desire to be associated, even with his family. In some cases, the death wish is fulfilled by suicide attempts.

Maddalena Feliciano, a hypnotherapist who specializes in human behavior, says the problem brings on symptoms such as: insomnia or excessive sleep, isolation, mood swings, lack of interest, persistent sadness and, in extreme cases, suicidal thoughts.

“Depression seeking treatment has already taken the biggest step towards its improvement. You can never do without diagnosis and psychological and psychological follow-up, however, hypnotherapy is a good option, since it treats not only the disease at the moment of its discovery, but also the cause”, Maddalena explains.

There is no single known cause of depression, there are people who indicate a genetic or biological predisposition, as well as those who end up falling ill due to a certain event.

The vast majority of cases of depression appear to be genetically transmitted and produced chemically. Discussing whether depression is psychological or biological is the same as asking whether any disease is biological or psychological. For example, is a duodenal ulcer psychological or biological? We are certain that there are biological and psychological factors in all human diseases. In some cases, the biological factor is decisive and as a consequence the psychological factor.

“Ranging from the idea that a person became depressed at a certain moment, because they were not born with it, there may be a reason for this to happen,” says Maddalena Feliciano.

As much as a person does not know the reason, the subconscious mind records every memory of our life. Through hypnotherapy, it is possible to discover, identify and intervene in the cause of this mental shift.

“A new interpretation of that potentially distressing memory also brings different feelings to how depression sees life now,” Maddalena explains.

Depression can last for a long time, if not treated properly, with serious damage to a person’s life: work, family and leisure are greatly at risk.

That is why treatment is necessary to intervene, reduce the duration and severity of the symptoms of the current seizure, and, above all, to prevent “relapse,” the hypnotherapist warns.

“Living with depression and trying to cope with it every day is not easy, and it is not within our inner control, but it is possible to overcome depression, as long as you seek appropriate and effective help. Reclaiming your sanity is something that every person needs and deserves, in addition to living with quality” . Finishing Maddalena Feliciano.
