Russia Bans Clooney Foundation | ABC News

The Clooney Foundation for Justice has been declared undesirable in our country, according to a statement from the Attorney General's Office.

The statement issued by Moscow also said that the activities of the foundation are aimed at “discrediting Russia, supporting false patriots, members of banned terrorist groups and extremist groups.”

The foundation was founded by George Clooney and his wife, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, and aims to combat human rights abuses.

– Under the guise of humanitarian ideas, these “fighters for justice” are promoting criminal investigation initiatives with high-ranking Russian officials, the Prosecutor General’s Office further writes.

In July of this year, the Clooney Foundation and several other NGOs filed a case with the UN Human Rights Committee accusing Russia of violating the human rights of Ukrainian citizens killed in a Russian missile attack on the city of Vinnytsia in 2022.

In July, the Moscow Times, a newspaper critical of the regime in exile in Russia, was banned, and in early August the same thing happened to the Konrad Adenauer Foundation for Democracy in Germany.

The fact that these organizations are now banned in Russia means, among other things, that Russians who work for, finance or cooperate with them are at risk of prosecution.
