Roberto Lint giving a lecture on Education and Science at the University of Uepa

At the invitation of the Dean of Research at the State University (Uepa) and Graduate Program in Health Teaching in the Amazon (PPGESA), Doctor and Researcher Roberto Lint, Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and Professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Minister, on Friday (20 ), the Education and Science lecture, 2 p.m., in the auditorium of the UEPA Center for Natural Sciences and Technology (CCNT). The meeting with one of the founders of Revista Ciência will be open to the public and admission is free, and interested parties must fill out a registration form.

In addition to the conference, Roberto Lint was invited by PPGESA to participate in Disciplinary Health Teaching Strategies: Neuroscience and Learning, coordinated by Professor and Director of Research, Joffer Jacob, Professor Yvette Ribeiro and Professor Antonio Pereira, from the Federal University. Bara. During activities at Uepa, the author of One Hundred Billion Neurons will address strategic learning actions that improve teaching.

Currently, Roberto Lent coordinates the National Network of Science for Education, which develops various actions with the goal of improving public education. The CpE Network has prepared four guiding documents: one on physiological factors influencing education, and one on gifted and disabled students. The third is on metacognition. Even the literacy of children. The documents are starting points for the state to take the proposals as public policies. CpE advocates that educational policies and educational practices are based on scientific evidence, as is the case in health. In this way, you will be more effective and safer. Research developed by Roberto Lint on memory, neuroplasticity, literacy, and learning disorders addresses the ongoing suffering of the general public in the contemporary world, especially parents and educators, who are faced with dilemmas that include, for example, the near-constant Internet connection of children and youth via screens. In this sense, although he does not consider himself a specialist in the field, the biophysicist says that from everything he has read on the subject, he understands that “the exaggerated or exclusive use of some form of interaction with the world significantly limits perception”. He embodies: “Reading is essential, but a person who only reads all the time loses social awareness, interpersonal empathy, etc. This is also the case with digital media.

Active in education and scientific publishing for adults and children, with published books for both audiences, such as Aventuras do Neuronônio recerer, and author of the Weekly Records on Neuroscience, Roberto Lint has been interested in social disposition since his teens, when he witnessed the cassation of my father’s arbitrary decision by the dictatorship in 1970. “I was arrested at that time because of my student activism. Scientific publishing was then an alternative to link my research work to the general population. Revista Ciência Hoje was my first foray down this path,” he recalls.

For Uepa’s Dean of Research, Joffer Jacob, Professor Lent, “In addition to being an internationally recognized researcher, he is an outstanding educator, as his goal is to conduct research in the fundamental field of neuroscience to be applied to improving education.” Part of this experience and knowledge can be shared with PPGESA students and the general public.
