The Municipal Health Department of Rio de Janeiro (SMS-Rio) on Thursday morning (24/02) implemented a measure for health promotion and prevention of arbovirus transmitted by Aedes aegypti (Dengue fever, Zika virus, and chikungunya) in the Beracoy community, in Piedra de Guarteba. Physical activities, oral health and the application of the Covid-19 vaccine, as well as home visits to research and eliminate potential mosquito outbreaks, have been implemented.
In combination with the Western District Sub-prefecture, the General Coordination of Local Primary Care and the Coordination of Environmental Health Surveillance, the Health Surveillance Agents (AVS) implemented an educational approach in situations in Praça do Piraquê, with supporting materials to take into account the suspicions of the population and an explanation about oral hygiene, anti-smoking and care needed to avoid having Aedes aegypti. In addition, physical exercises were performed for 45 students of Carioca Academy. More than 100 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19 on site. In all, 125 professionals took part in the event.
Health surveillance agents also visited 1,777 properties and stopped 14 outbreaks of dengue mosquitoes. Comlurb has removed material that could serve as vector breeding grounds.
