A sports coach confirms the “extraordinary season” for the Lions, who are still in their struggle for the national handball title

Sporting handball coach Ricardo Costa considered his team’s victory over Benfica deserved (36-31), next Saturday, stressing that the Lions will “fight to the end” for the title. “It was a very demanding game, Benfica were also doing well, but we were always at the top with an advantage of five and six goals. We will believe until the end. Whatever final happens next weekend, I think we have a season,” he said after the final whistle. Exceptional, full of struggle and a lot of desire, congratulations to the athletes.”

It should be noted that Sporting is one point behind leaders FC Porto at the start of the final round of the championship. To avoid a fourth Dragon Championship, Ricardo Costa’s side need to defeat Ada Maia and hope the Blue and White don’t prevail in Madeira – both matches kick off at 6pm next Saturday. Benfica (on 66 points now), can’t get past third place.
