a Obsidian entertainment revealed, through a video documentary celebrating 20 years, that the upcoming action RPG, I confessIt was originally envisioned as a cooperative multiplayer.
Watch a 30-minute documentary in English:
The statement came from studio head Feargus Urquhart. He explains that the effort to include multiplayer in the game was to interest potential publishers.
“When I look back 20 years ago, there are decisions I feel good about and there are decisions I don’t feel good about. One of the things I really insisted on was that it be Avowed multiplayer. I kept at it for a long time.Urquhart said, before adding:When you ask for 50, 60, 70, 80 million, you need something interesting to talk about, and make this multiplayer interesting.“.
Urquhart also revealed that insisting on team play was “the wrong decision”. Next, Obsidian’s head of development, Justin Britsch, explains all the difficulties the team faced when trying to add collaborative features.
Obsidian was bought by Microsoft in 2018 and since then it has been decided to cut multiplayer out of the game and this development will focus on making the adventure perfect for single player only.
I confess Slated for 2024 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Game Pass.
