Recognized problems. Stellantis extends PureTech 1.2 engine warranty

Find out about the extended warranty terms for the Stellantis 1.2L PureTech three-cylinder gasoline engine.

Stellantis' 1.2-litre three-cylinder PureTech petrol engine is the most popular in the range, covering multiple models from different brands such as Peugeot, Citroën, DS Automobiles and Opel.

However, this unit has proven to be somewhat problematic, as several cases of excessive oil consumption or lack of oil pressure, associated with premature deterioration of the timing belt, have been reported.

These known issues affected units produced between April 2014 and June 2022. The three-cylinder PureTech engines manufactured after June 2022 are untouched and are equipped with the latest models of the mentioned brands as well as new proposals from Jeep and Fiat – Avenger and 600, respectively.

The solution Stellantis has now found to solve this problem focuses on an exceptional warranty extension for certain three-cylinder PureTech gasoline engines, under certain conditions and on a retroactive basis.

10 years / 175,000 km

The engine warranty can therefore be extended to 10 years/175,000 km, but only for customers who have adhered to the manufacturer's maintenance plan, among other conditions.

Used vehicles equipped with the PureTech three-cylinder engine are also covered by this extended warranty, if they meet the eligibility requirements.

“Customers interested in extending their warranty should contact their authorized repair network,” Stellantis states.
