Rain postpones Gustavo Ribeiro's test until Monday

The Portuguese Olympic Committee has confirmed that Portuguese skateboarder Gustavo Ribeiro will not compete until Monday, after rain caused the street race scheduled for Saturday to be postponed.

Eighth at Tokyo 2020, Gustavo Ribeiro was supposed to compete in the street qualifiers today at 12:00 local time (11:00 Lisbon time), with the final scheduled for 17:00 (16:00), but rain that has been falling in Paris without interruption since late Friday afternoon has led to the postponement of the competition.

Thus, the Portuguese skier, who was the great hope of the Portuguese delegation on the first day of the Paris 2024 Olympics, will only compete on Monday, with the qualifiers and final taking place at the same time.

Portugal's Nuno Borges, ranked 42nd in the world, will make his Olympic debut on Saturday against Argentina's Mariano Navone, ranked 36th, in the second match on Court 10, which is not supposed to start before 15.00.

Borges also plays in a doubles, alongside Francisco Cabral, and will face Greeks Petros and Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round, with the date of the match yet to be determined.

The first round was supposed to start in full at 12:00 local time (11:00 Lisbon time), on 12 courts, but play only started on the Philippe Chatrier and Suzanne Lenglen courts, both of which have removable roofs.

In the main court, Poland's Iga Swiatek, the world number one and three-time Roland Garros champion, faces Romania's Irina-Camelia Begu, while Suzanne Lenglen faces Italy's Jasmine Paolini, a finalist in the last two tournaments, against Romania's Ana Bogdan.
