The expected Ukrainian counterattack is just around the corner, though no one knows exactly when it will start.
But according to an intelligence report released today by the British Ministry of Defense, Russia must also have prepared for this.
– Since the summer of 2022, Russia has built some of the most extensive defensive and military positions the world has seen in many decades, the British wrote.

Moreover, these defensive positions are allegedly taking shape not only along the front line, but also deep in Russian-controlled areas.
The report states that the Russians especially made these moves in the regions north of Crimea, which Russia has controlled since 2014. But it is also alleged that they did the same thing in the regions internationally recognized as part of Russia, namely in Belgorod and Kursk.
These moves show that Russian leaders are deeply concerned that Ukraine will achieve significant breakthroughs. At the same time, it is likely that some of this action was ordered by local and civic leaders in an effort to advance the narrative that Russia is threatened by NATO and Ukraine.
NATO equipment
Ahead of the weekend, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated that Ukraine had received 98 percent of the promised military vehicles. Some of them should be the equivalent of 1,550 armored vehicles and 230 tanks.
– All in all, the Ukrainians will deploy at least 100,000 men in the offensive, says military analyst and journalist Thomas Thiner for TV 2.
Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov did not set a date, but said, “We are pretty much ready.” The Ukrainian government hopes the long-awaited spring offensive will change the course of the war, 14 months after Russia invaded the neighboring country.
– When God wills, the weather allows and the officers make a decision, we will do it, – said Reznikov in an online meeting with the press on Friday.

Wagner head
The head of Wagner’s militia, Yevgeny Prigozhin, warned on Sunday that a major Ukrainian offensive could be a tragedy for Russia.
In an interview with Russian war correspondent Semyon Pegov on Sunday, Prigozhin also complained that his soldiers were running low on ammunition.
– He said that we have only 10-15 percent of the grenades we need, and blamed the Russian Defense Command.
Prigozhin said he expected Ukraine to launch its long-awaited offensive in mid-May, and that such an attack could be a tragedy for Russia.
