The national stock market closed higher, supported by the good performances of Jerónimo Martins, Galp and BCP.
In the rest of Europe, the trend was almost generally bearish, with the exception of Madrid, with the most stressed sectors being household items, basic resources, travel and real estate. The largest losses are recorded by banks and the media.
Here, the PSI rose 0.49% to 6,016.69 points, with 8 points in green and 8 in red.
Jerónimo Martins was the listed company that supported the National Benchmark Index the most. The owner of Pingo Doce added 0.93% to €26, which equaled the closing record set on July 6 (the same day it hit an all-time high, in intraday trading, when it touched €26.24).
Bernstein revised up Geronimo Martins’ “goal” to €27 (versus €23 from the last note of “Research”), according to Bloomberg. Setting this “goal,” analyst William Woods indicates that the listed company will rise by 5.47% in the stock exchange over the next 12 months.
Galp was also helped by the good performance of the Lisbon market on Monday, rising 0.87% to 10.92 euros, on the day it presented operating results. Galeb said that the refining margin reached $7.7 per barrel of oil in the second quarter of this year, down 46% from $14.3 in the first three months of the year. However, the numbers were much higher than the $6.6 that analysts had predicted in a Bloomberg survey.
Still in the energy business, EDP Group had the opposite move. EDP decreased 0.83% to 4.303 euros, and the renewable energies subsidiary decreased 0.28% to 17.97 euros. This is despite the fact that JB Capital Markets has revised target prices for EDP and EDP Renováveis upwards – which happens just days after the successful takeover offer (OPA) by EDP via Energias do Brasil.
For its part, Greenvolt jumped 0.90% to 6.155 euros, while the REN lost 0.40% to 2.465 euros.
On the earnings side, BCP also stood out and helped boost PSI, accompanying the positive movement of this segment across Europe. The bank, led by Miguel Maia, added 1.78%, to 23.43 cents.
On paper, Altri and Navigator gained ground, while Semapa closed in on the red.
