Denmark’s Queen Margrethe is 83 years old. On that occasion, she appeared on the balcony of Amalienborg in Copenhagen on a Sunday afternoon.
Not on speaking terms
With her was the entire royal family, including Prince Joachim (53) and his family.
According to the Danish BT And many other media outlets, this is the first time the family has appeared together in public since last year’s title row.
– To the surprise of many, Queen Margaret was surrounded by her entire family on her birthday. Both sons, daughters-in-law and eight grandchildren. This is by no means the first time this has happened. But after all the noise that was made, it wasn’t clear that everyone would be quiet, says Caroline Fagel, an expert on the royal house in Se og Hør.
Journalist for Prince Joachim: – Excuse me
The Queen’s decision to strip Prince Joachim’s children of their titles caused great strife within the family, and created headlines outside Denmark’s borders as well.
The children are now treated as Count and Countess of Monpezat.
– The whole family of Prince Joachim was very clear in their disappointment with the Queen when she took the titles from the Prince’s children. But now it seems that they have reached a reconciliation, and there is nothing better than that, Fagel continues.
Difficult relationship
Naturally, family reunions would make headlines with our Nordic neighbors, too.
BT’s royal correspondent, Jacob Heinel Jensen, thinks it’s a huge achievement for the Queen to bring the whole family together again.
– It was a very necessary thing, otherwise it would have been completely insane.
Moreover, Jensen emphasizes, this does not necessarily mean that the internal relationship has improved much.
He uses a new title: – Always a princess
– Prince Joachim and Princess Marie (47) were also at home during the Queen’s Royal Jubilee at the Copenhagen City Council in November, but as far as I know, it is not because relations have improved much. So just because they are now standing together on the balcony and smiling doesn’t mean this crisis is completely over.
Sunday’s festivities mark the first time in five years that the Queen has celebrated her birthday in Amalienborg.
It is also the first day that Margaret officially resumes her role as guardian after back surgery in February.
