This Tuesday, August 3, is the end of a period of doubts and questions for some future Dorados moms and dads who received their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine and can now complete a course of immunization with Pfizer.
The change in the immunization factor occurred because on May 11, the state Department of Health (SES) preemptively halted application of the vaccine made by AstraZeneca/Fiocruz in pregnant women, following guidance from the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa).
At that time, the Ministry of Health issued an indicative memorandum to stop taking the immunizing agent in front of two cases of a woman of these categories who died after receiving the vaccine. According to the file, 15,000 pregnant women were vaccinated with the vaccine as of May 10.
In Dorados, the decision directly affected the life of 28-year-old Amanda Elaine Rodriguez, who is currently nine months pregnant. She was vaccinated with AstraZeneca on May 6, just five days before the ban on immunizing pregnant women.
When asked if she was afraid of the changes, the mother was emphatic: “In terms of the vaccine, I think it causes more benefits than harm,” and in cooperation with the doctor, they decided that she would take the second dose of Pfizer, released for pregnant women.
Enthusiastic about the booster dose in the vaccination queue at CCI (Center for Coexistence of the Elderly) André Chamorro, Amanda also cited the fact that any drug can cause side effects and that before the pandemic, everyone was taking vaccines without questioning the manufacturers or their efficacy.
Anna Luisa, 24, five months pregnant, was also waiting for her second dose with her mother, Lillian Camargo. She was vaccinated with AstraZeneca on May 7, and stated that she was not afraid when the immunizing agent was banned because they were isolated cases.
Feeling able to complete the vaccination was a relief to both the pregnant woman and the mother who accompanied her. Lillian said the feeling of insecurity was that her daughter couldn’t take the booster dose, but they were never afraid of the backlash.

The City of Dorados, through the Immunization Center, has reported that pregnant women who have taken an AstraZeneca 1 dose through 5/22/21 should head to the CCI to complete Pfizer’s 2-dose vaccination schedule, but need to report with a physician’s recommendation.
