Irish developer Welink is preparing an investment to increase solar capacity, build two wind farms and a battery storage solution.
Welink will make the largest solar power plant in Portuguese territory profitable by making it hybrid with a significant investment of 400 million euros. The news was announced this morning exclusively by Jornal Económico, referring to the project located in Alcoutim.
The Irish developer is preparing an investment to increase solar capacity, build two wind farms and a battery storage solution. According to JE, the hybridization idea focuses on Solara4's ambition to start producing electricity continuously (24 hours a day), in order to make the 200 MW connection profitable.
“We are trying to maximize the point of contact through hybrid projects. There is still more room to improve the project with the extra solar equipment. We have been studying the wind resources for more than a year,” Hugo Paz, project manager for Iberia at Welllink, told Jornal Económico.
It is important to note that this station sells all its electricity needs to the market and does not have guaranteed prices. The company is also interested in participating in the storage auction announced by the government with the aim of installing 80 mega storage with a capacity of four hours.
Dividing the investment, it amounts to 200 million for wind, between 35 and 40 million for solar energy and 70 million for storage, while the promoter still intends to invest 100 million in the second phase of wind energy.
