The agricultural sector is pleased to be present in the Portugal Fresh Pavilion, which has an area of more than 700 square metres, and is the largest ever. Positive sentiment as it was revealed that Portugal will reach a record value in fruit and vegetable exports.
IFEMA Madrid is full of fruits and vegetables, and Portugal is represented by more than 50 companies. These days, Madrid is a business hub and national producers know it, which is why they head to the Spanish capital ready to shake hands and export online.
Just in He stands Portugal Fresh includes 54 companies, including producers, sector associations and logistics organisations. As Spain is the main export destination for Portuguese producers, Madrid seems the ideal place these days, where top international producers such as Chiquita and Pink Lady can be found.
Between apples and pears from the west and berries from the south, Portugal is well represented. The pavilion where the Portuguese delegation is located is the most visited, with almost no space to move around the display of food products.
This type of exhibition was extremely important for the agricultural sector as well as for producers, as the country had already exceeded the goal it had set for itself at the beginning of the year. The president of Portugal Fresh, Gonçalo Santos Andrade, highlighted in an interview with journalists that he expects to end the year with exports worth about 2.5 billion euros, in addition to praising the sector’s behavior over the past decade.
The Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, José Manuel Fernández, and the President of the Portuguese Farmers' Confederation (CAP), Álvaro Mendonça i Moura, were keen to attend and highlight the sector that has contributed significantly to the Portuguese GDP and also to expand the Portuguese brand throughout the world. But the Portuguese committee also had the brief presence of Economy Minister Pedro Reis, who took advantage of his presence in Madrid as part of the “Inspira Portugal, 50 years later” conference.
During their visits, the ministers had the opportunity to speak with some of the companies present, where they spoke two words when talking about the importance of this presence and also about some of the concerns that the sector is experiencing, especially after the agricultural crisis. The campaign was severely affected by water scarcity.
The government official responsible for agriculture has emphasized precisely this concern, telling companies, on several occasions, that a “Water that Unites” plan is coming, which anticipates accelerating the creation of infrastructure for efficient water use.
